Thousands Participate in Pro-Palestinian Demonstrations as Organizers Vow to Continue Demonstrating

Tens of thousands assembled throughout the country at rallies supporting Palestine, with organisers promising to persist in activism after a peace arrangement negotiated by the former US president in Gaza seemed to be taking effect.

Sydney Demonstration Attracts Many Participants

In Sydney, the pro-Palestine organization claimed a crowd of 30,000 had demonstrated from the central park to another city park in the central business district after a planned rally to the Opera House was banned by the legal authorities last week.

NSW police estimated eight thousand participants attended the Sydney protest, with a spokesperson saying there had been "no significant incidents".

Countrywide Protests Mark Anniversary

Protests were also held in Melbourne, Queensland's capital and Western Australian city on the weekend to mark two years of killing in Gaza after armed incidents on 7 October 2023 killed about 1,200 people in the neighboring country.

"Concerning the protest efforts, we'll absolutely continue to demonstrate for Palestinian freedom... for autonomy in the territory, for aid to be allowed in and for residents to restore their communities," commented a coordinator.

Varied Responses to Ceasefire Agreement

Numerous demonstrators shared confidence that the truce might bring permanent peace. Some were doubtful of the former president's role and urged supporters to continue urging the Australian government to impose restrictions and stop arms transactions.

One protester, a Australian of Palestinian descent living in Sydney, shared he desired the arrangement could permit him to assist his senior relative, who is still in Gaza without proper healthcare, to Australia, and to find and bury his family members, who have been unaccounted for since that year.

Local Jewish Population Holds Commemoration

Separately, thousands joined a community remembrance on Sunday night in eastern Sydney to commemorate the two-year mark of 7 October. Geoffrey Majzner, the relative of a victim, an national who was killed during the attacks, was planned to address.

There were prayers for the imminent repatriation of the captives still held in the territory and those killed on 7 October. The foreign envoy, the diplomat, recognized the determination of those affected. The crowd booed when he referenced the head of government and the international relations official.

Boat Activists Describe Ordeals

The local protest earlier included testimonies including four Australians released from Israeli detention after the stopping of the protest boats in recent weeks.

Surya McEwen, his damaged arm after it was said to be harmed in an detention facility, informed that limited details were clear about the peace agreement. Global humanitarian groups, including Unrwa and Unicef, were organizing to reach the region.

"Given the ongoing conditions where there's a harsh and unlawful restriction on the territory," commented McEwen, maritime demonstrators would persist in attempting to deliver aid by sea.

Another participant, who returned to Sydney on recently, gave an moving testimony recounting his imprisonment with numerous other individuals in a detention facility.

Leadership Remarks

The political representative Jenny Leong addressed participants: "It's unacceptable to permit a world where Trump determines the future of the Palestinian people to be the nature of existence we tolerate."

Another organiser who made the first proposal to demonstrate at the famous location asserted that the participants could have peacefully gone to the renowned coastal site. The NSW police assistant commissioner had previously told the legal authority that the arrangement appeared dangerous.

The activist commented during the protest: "Every single time the law enforcement seeks to prevent our rallies or take us to the supreme court, it wakes up a lot of people... to the importance of gathering and resist these measures."
