The President Invites Loved Ones of Shot Military Members to the White House
President Trump stated on Sunday that he has invited the loved ones of a Guard member tragically killed last week to come to the executive mansion.
He mentioned that he contacted her parents and they were “devastated”.
Background on the Devastating Incident
Specialist Sarah Beckstrom, twenty years old, was fatally shot in a shooting on Wednesday in DC.
Her fellow service member, Staff Sgt Andrew Wolfe, 24, is still in the hospital in serious condition.
Gatherings across West Virginia have taken place in their honor.
White House Offer
The president explained he’s proposed a meeting at the presidential residence for the loved ones of both individuals of the West Virginia Guard.
“I said: ‘When you’re prepared, because that’s a hard experience, arrive at the White House. We’re going to honor her,” Trump informed journalists. “And in the same way with Andrew, whether he recovers or not.”
Community Response
Attendees gathered over the weekend at a local school in West Virginia to remember Beckstrom.
Both she and Wolfe had been working with the West Virginia National Guard as part of Trump’s government program to support law enforcement in DC.
Honoring the Soldier
“She was the type of pupil that educators wished for. She carried herself with quiet strength, a bright grin and a optimistic attitude that inspired those around her,” Jarrod Hankins, the head of her alma mater, informed the press. “She was sweet, compassionate and always willing to support those in need.”
Funeral plans for Sarah are in the process of planning.
Legal Measures and Government Changes
Law enforcement have charged a twenty-nine-year-old individual from Afghanistan with a charge of murder and two counts of attempted murder while armed.
The event led the Trump administration to pause asylum applications and cease issuing visas to holders of travel documents.
Condition of Andrew Wolfe
Andrew Wolfe, a native of the city, started his military career in February 2019 and is a graduate of Musselman High, per the news agency.
He remains under medical supervision and is “battling to survive”, West Virginia leader Morrisey mentioned on television.
The state’s top lawyer Pam Bondi stated on a news show that she planned to speak to the family.
Memory of Beckstrom
Sarah, from her hometown, graduated from Webster County high school in 2023 and began her service not long after, serving as a MP with honor, as stated by the West Virginia National Guard.
“She had a lot of compassion and she absolutely had courage,” the governor told the gathering at the vigil. “Though her time was cut short, she has left a mark that’s going to last forever.”
