Pat Bamford Joins Sheffield United After Initiating Derogatory Chants Targeting Manager Chris Wilder

Patrick Bamford is now a member of Sheffield United just seven months following starting insulting taunts aimed at the team's coach, Wilder.

This experienced striker, without a club after departing from Leeds, has agreed to a deal with the second-tier strugglers until January. Bamford's seven-year career at Elland Road finished by mutual consent this past summer.

Among the player's last memorable actions while at Leeds involved leading insulting chants regarding Chris Wilder during the club’s promotion celebrations in April. Now, the former England international will be playing for Wilder as Sheffield United's boss looks to pull his beloved club out of the bottom places.

Past Conflict Involving the Striker and Wilder

The pair had history prior to Leeds earned promotion to the Premier League the previous campaign and United lost the playoff final to Sunderland. The manager called the forward as a "muppet" back when the roles were reversed in 2018-19 and the Blades won automatic promotion whereas Leeds United missed out in the promotion playoffs.

Making Amends and Looking Ahead

Everything appears has been forgiven and forgotten with United, the Championship’s least productive attack, in desperate need of a boost in attack while Bamford looking to resurrect his career.

The Wilder chant spread widely this spring. An apologetic Bamford and the Leeds manager, Daniel Farke, phoned Wilder the next day.

Wilder commented back then: “Had a conversation with Patrick yesterday and I have no problem whatsoever with that. I'm uncertain regarding the words used from a fellow professional! But I appreciated and admired him giving me a call.

“We had 20 minutes and the same again I talked with Daniel Farke too and we had a half-hour chat with him and he is a great person, a class act. Back in my playing days we would dish it out and accept it and that is an integral part of football at every level, even on a Sunday morning. I've got absolutely no issue. I am cool with the situation and I told him that to Pat.”
