Air travel have resumed at Scotland's primary international airport following a major ATC system failure brought the international hub to a standstill.

All incoming and outgoing flights were stopped because of an IT issue that was reported at approximately 08:30.

A number of travelers reported being stuck in aircraft on the tarmac while the issue persisted.

Operations Restart with Ongoing Delays

Officials announced at 10:40 that services were back online, and expressed gratitude to passengers for their "understanding and cooperation".

However, ongoing issues are likely to continue throughout the day. Flights to London Gatwick, Bristol, Amsterdam and Frankfurt have been axed, with a host of additional flights experiencing delays.

Officials had initially projected that 27 departures and 11 arrivals could be affected.

"Travelers are urged to check directly with their airline for the most up-to-date details on their individual travel plans," officials reiterated.

Cause of the Chaos

The airport attributed the full ground stop to an technical fault with its control tower systems vendor.

Travelers should still plan to verify the schedule of their trip before departing to the airport as backlogs are cleared.
