Keely Hodgkinson Wraps Up Season with Winning Performance at Athlos in New York
The athlete recorded her personal best of one minute 54.61 seconds last year in the British capital.
Keely Hodgkinson finished her two-lap season with a win at the all-female Athlos event in NYC on Friday night.
{The reigning Olympic gold medallist, who secured third place at the World Championships recently, dominated an outstanding victory in 1:56.53 in what was only her sixth race in a season affected by a muscle issue.
Compatriot and global silver winner Georgia Hunter Bell finished second once more in 1:58.33, while the athlete from St Vincent Shafiqua Maloney (one minute 58.57) secured third place.
"I've barely raced this season so it was probably easier for me to compete and be motivated to perform," stated Hodgkinson.
"The environment at the event is crazy so it was extremely enjoyable."
The women-only event filled Icahn Stadium in its second edition, bringing a party atmosphere to traditional track, with live music and special crowns replacing traditional winners' medals.
The tennis legend with 23 major titles Serena Williams, who is married to Athlos founder Alexis Ohanian, was on hand to present the victors with their crowns.
Previous champions received $60,000 (£44,603) - one of the largest prize purses in track and field.
The competition also attracted several top athletes, as the Kenyan triple Olympic champion and world record holder Faith Kipyegon won the mile, crossing the finish line in four hours 17.78 minutes.
The US Brittany B., the 200m bronze winner from last year's Paris Olympics, won the 100m and 200m double.
