The bowler's most recent Test for the Kiwis was against England in December 2024.

England's fast-bowling advisor Tim Southee is still working through what his involvement will be at the forthcoming Ashes series in the host nation.

The ex- New Zealand pace bowler is expected to be present for the opening match because of his involvement in the ILT20 competition, which begins on December 2 in the United Arab Emirates.

Southee, aged 36, took up a position as England's pace bowling advisor in the summer after claiming 391 wickets in 107 Test matches for the Kiwis.

Speaking as England's team for the first of three T20 matches against New Zealand was named, he stated of his participation: "We're still working through that at the moment.

"We will determine what happens over the coming days."

English pace icon Broad had stated the Australia team as their "weakest squad since 2010", but Southee was in little doubt over the anticipated challenge during the series, which begins on November 21.

"I don't think there's ever a poor Australian cricket team," he remarked.

"Our focus is squarely on what we're trying to do. I think the caliber of [the English] team that's heading out to the host country is excellent.

"It should be an thrilling encounter, the Ashes. Not just [are|do] English and Australian people looking forward to it, I think the whole cricket world is."

However, prior to the English team travel to the city of Perth for the opening Ashes Test, they face New Zealand in Christchurch on Saturday.
