One China's court has handed down death sentences to several top members of an infamous Myanmar mafia to death as Chinese authorities continues its campaign on fraudulent operations in South East Asia.

Overall, 21 Bai family figures and partners were convicted of fraud, homicide, injury and various offenses, reported a state media announcement released on the court portal.

The family is one of a few of mafias that rose to power in the 2000s and transformed the underdeveloped backwater town of the town into a wealthy center of gambling establishments and red-light districts.

In recent years they turned to illegal operations in which thousands of illegally moved people, many of them Chinese, are ensnared, harmed and compelled to scam victims in illegal enterprises worth huge sums.

Specifics of the Sentencing

Mafia head the patriarch and his heir the younger Bai were among the five men sentenced to execution by the court in Shenzhen. Yang Liqiang, Hu Xiaojiang and Chen Guangyi were the additional convicted.

A couple of individuals of the Bai family mafia were received delayed executions. Five were condemned to life in prison, while nine others were given prison sentences varying from several years to two decades.

The clan, who commanded their own private army, established 41 compounds to host their online fraud schemes and betting establishments, officials stated.

Magnitude of Criminal Activities

Such criminal operations involved more than 29bn local currency ($4.1 billion; over three billion pounds). These activities also led to the deaths of several Chinese citizens, the suicide of one and numerous injuries, official sources reported.

The severe punishments issued by the judicial body are a component of the Chinese initiative to remove the large fraud rings in the region - and issue a stern warning to other criminal syndicates.

History of the Clans

These clans gained influence in the recent decades with the assistance of a prominent figure - who now leads Myanmar's junta. The leader had intended to prop up partners in the town after ousting its earlier warlord.

Within the groups, the Bais were "absolutely number one", the son previously told official sources.

"At that time, our Bai family was the most powerful in both the government and military spheres," the individual remarked in a film about the clan, aired on official channels in July.

In the same report, a worker at one of fraud facilities narrated the mistreatment he had endured at the location: in addition to being hit, he had his fingernails removed with tools and two of his fingers amputated with a blade.

Additional Charges

Bai Yingcang is among those who were condemned to death this week. He has also been separately found guilty of organizing to traffic and produce 11 tonnes of illegal drugs, reports stated.

Downfall of the Families

Their fall occurred in 2023 as situations altered.

Previously Chinese authorities has pressed the Myanmar junta to control scam operations in Laukkaing.

Last year, the Chinese police issued arrest warrants for the most prominent members of these clans.

The patriarch, the clan's patriarch, was included in the warlords who were handed to China from Myanmar in recent months.

For what reason is the authorities putting so much effort to target the four families?" a official stated in the summer film.
This serves as a warning other people, no matter your position, your location, when you carry out these terrible crimes against the citizens, you will face consequences."
