Chiefs State They Are Aware of Domestic Violence Claims Involving Wide Receiver the Athlete
The NFL franchise issued a statement on Wednesday evening stating they have knowledge of claims of abuse circulated in online accounts by a ex-partner of player the athlete and were in communication with the NFL.
The team omitted the name of Rice by name in their statement and said they would have “nothing more to add at this time”.
Allegations Shared on Social Media
The woman, who likewise did not name Rice directly, posted a series of photos on Instagram that appeared to show indicators of bodily harm. Jones did say the individual in question was the father of her children, and it is known she has two children with the football player, whom the Chiefs selected in the second round.
Official Complaints Reportedly Unavailable
No police reports were on file in Overland Park, Kansas where the incident is said to have taken place.
Rice's Prior Legal Issues
The receiver missed the first six games of this NFL campaign due to an NFL suspension for his role in instigating a crash on a Texas roadway that resulted in several individuals injured. He was given a month of incarceration and probationary supervision after pleading guilty to felony charges.
On the field, he finished the season with 53 receptions for 571 receiving yards and five TDs as the Chiefs finished 6-11 and failed to qualify for the postseason for the first occasion in a ten-year span.
